half-time: favey albums of 2010

While my dear friend Sarah thinks EVERYONE should get in for VIP & “top 30 albums” is a narrow best of list, I picked my ten favorite albums so far this year. Totally bias, complete with links to A/V supplements as always. Check it out:
1. Twin Sister, Color Your Life — I spent an entire morning laying in bed listening to “Lady Daydream” on loop. It seemed like the best possible use of my time, and I stand by that. I’m completely obsessed with the entire six song album. The gradual build in “Phenomenons” with Andrea’s soft, breathy vocals is one of the hottest songs I’ve heard in a long time. Aug. 23, TWIN SISTER @ Emo’s
2. Black Keys, Brothers — DAAAYYYM. These guys done did it again! I’m just tryin’ to live my life & listen to new music, but they keep on trifflin’. How’m I s’posed to move on when I just can’t quit you?? Dan Auerbach keeps tryin’ to impregnate me with sex-fueled guitar riffs. I would name it rock n’ roll. Oct. 9 & 10th, BLACK KEYS @ ACL
3. Sleigh Bells, Treats — Pump up the jams. This is it - KAPOW! High kicks & coffee, it’s time to wake the fuck up. This is the soundtrack to winning at life.
4. Wu-Tang vs. Beatles, Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers— Tom Caruana remixed the hell out of Beatles & “Wu-capella” samples for some magical musical conconctions. The mashup totally blew my mind. It got yanked from the internet, but I highly recommend finding yourself a copy by whatever means necessary.
5. Beach House, Teen Dream — I sunk into this dreamy album & wrapped myself into it’s layers for the majority of the winter. It was cold out & this was the perfect companion for hibernation. Definitely my favorite release by them yet. “Walk in the Park” & “Used to Be” on repeat for days.
6. Magic Man, Real Life Color — Some really nice, dazzling songs. I’m really impressed by this debut. This little band from Boston captures something truly special.
7. Yeasayer, Odd Blood — They got it right with this one. I don’t know when I entered this post apocalyptic glam world, but holy shit. Here I am & everything is so righteous.
8. Woods, At Echo Lake — They just rip in and cut loose. I really enjoy the resourcefulness in their D.I.Y. garage rock.
9. Tallest Man on Earth, The Wild Hunt — Gee whiz, what’s a girl to say? He’s a poet with delicately crafted verses spun over trembling guitar riffs. To top that, he has a horse tattoo & sings on his tippy toes. I’m done. I never even stood a chance.
10. Sallie Ford & The Outside Sound, Not An Animal EP — I’m totally excited about this troop of nerds slingin’ old timey blues like champs. I can’t wait to see these guys gain some recognition.
